Job Description

The Photon Science Institute (PSI) is a multidisciplinary research centre in which physicists, chemists, engineers and material scientists use light to enable science as well as to develop new ways of generating, manipulating and detecting it. Housed in a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility, the PSI and benefits from a comprehensive suite of laser sources covering a wide range of wavelengths, energies and pulse durations. In particular, we have a number of ultrafast laser systems capable of producing pulses as short as ~10 fs and over a spectral range spanning from X-rays to the THz.

Investment by the Henry Royce Institute has supported a range of new analytical instrumentation including a cleanroom and materials triage facility to be established within the PSI. The Cleanroom Technician will be primarily responsible for ensuring that the cleanroom is maintained, clean and serviceable and that good housekeeping is maintained at all times. They will provide support for research work, commercial contracts and also student projects. The post holder will work alongside a team of (Senior) Experimental Officers to provide technical support and expertise to an internal and external user community regarding the use of a wide range of scientific equipment and to ensure optimal sample preparation.

You will have hands-on experience of cleanroom protocols and knowledge of operating and basic maintenance of gloveboxes, spin coaters, metal evaporators and ancillary equipment. A proactive and energetic approach is important, as is an ability to establish a good rapport with students, staff, external customers and visitors. A degree, or equivalent technical qualification, in a physical sciences discipline and/or significant experience of working in an equivalent laboratory environment is required.
