Job Description

This post is based within the Research Degrees and Researcher Development Team within the Directorate of Research and Business Engagement (RBE).

The University of Manchester is seeking to appoint three enthusiastic and innovative Researcher Development Officers to join the Researcher Development team. The Researcher Development team plays a key role in supporting the University’s commitment to creating a supportive environment in which researchers at all stages of their careers can develop and thrive.

The Researcher Development Officer will plan, design, deliver and evaluate professional and career development training programmes for postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and their supervisors and research staff. You will work closely with the Researcher Development Manager, academic leaders in the three Faculties, external bodies and PGR and research staff representatives to understand, identify and develop professional and career training and development needs. You will be responsible for working with colleagues across Professional Services to ensure training and development provision is sector leading, impactful and inclusive and meets the needs of the PGR and research staff communities. You will also contribute to the development of policies, strategy and initiatives which support the University’s strategic ambitions to develop researchers at every career stage.

If you have a commitment to the development of researchers and understand the context and challenges that researchers including PGRs face we would like to hear from you. You will be expected to have experience of designing and delivering training, experience of engaging and working with researchers and have excellent communication, interpersonal and planning skills. An interest in innovative ways of delivering training will be an advantage.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team, to shape the future direction of researcher development and ensure PGRs and research staff are supported in their professional development.
