We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (Grade 6) to work for 24 months on a project funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF, UK) (Principal Investigator: Dr Emmanuel Pinteaux) to investigate the specific functions of the cytokine IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta in stroke. The project aims to generate brain cell-specific IL-1 alpha and IL-1beta knock-out mice to determine the neuroprotective and neuroreparative actions of both cytokines using in vivo models of cerebral ischaemia. The ideal candidate must have skills and expertise in in vivo animal models of stroke (middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice), brain imaging techniques (MRI, laser speckle imaging), ex vivo analyses (immunohistochemistry), maintenance of mouse colonies and genotyping PCR. You will join a large translational research group (Brain Inflammation Group) in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, which is one of the largest groupings of biologists in the UK, with excellent research facilities. The post is tenable for 24 months with a start date of 1st February 2022.
