Job Description

Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is seeking to appoint a Visitor Environment Manager. The role will have direct responsibility for maintaining excellent facilities in accordance with those expected of a World Heritage Site, and as the site enters a period of transformation with the launch of the new NLHF funded First Light Pavilion in 2022.

Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is one of The University of Manchester’s cultural institutions. The organisation is responsible for engagement with the science, heritage & culture of Jodrell Bank and the wider University of Manchester, engaging visitors through a year-round visitor experience via exhibitions, grounds, events and festivals. We were established in 2011 and typically welcome around 160,000 annual visitors a year. Jodrell Bank was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 in recognition of its internationally significant heritage, science and cultural impact.

The Centre is undergoing a major development with the opening of its new First Light Pavilion. This new Pavilion will broaden the Discovery Centre’s offer by bringing in heritage and cultural engagement alongside science.

The Visitor Environment Manager will report to the Deputy Director in the smooth running of a world class visitor attraction via the implementation of a new management and maintenance plan to meet the expansion of facilities and visitor growth and to support revenue generation.

They will be responsible for enabling a first class experience of the site’s extended visitor environment, managing the upkeep of facilities and systems, encompassing building maintenance, landscape maintenance, housekeeping, health and safety, and security for the benefit of our people, partners and staff.

They will support business resilience and business objectives by embedding a culture of impeccable housekeeping across all areas whilst the site achieves broadened audiences and visitor growth.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
