Job Description

The Henry Royce Institute (Royce), an EPSRC-funded national institute, supports UK advanced materials research and innovation. With its Hub at The University of Manchester, the Institute has spokes at nine Partner and Associate organisations: the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge, Cranfield, Oxford and Imperial College London, as well as at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and National Nuclear Laboratory. Royce is seeking an Outreach Officer to implement the delivery of the Institute’s strategic plan for outreach and engagement. The Outreach Officer will be responsible for delivering outreach activities on behalf of Royce at a national level, including attendance at public engagement events, science festivals and through direct to school programmes. They will work with the Discover Materials’ National Outreach Officer to develop new outreach activities, as well as with technical staff and researchers across Royce to help share the scientific work they are engaged in.

The post holder will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an interest in sharing their own, and others’, experience and knowledge of the material science discipline. They will be able to converse and engage with multiple stakeholders, ranging from school children, the general public, to material science researchers across academia and in industry. Experience of designing and delivering public engagement or scientific outreach activities within a HEI or research environment is essential, as is knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion, including of widening participation, in relation to outreach.
