
The National Graphene Institute is an established UK facility supporting graphene and 2D materials research and development. The Institute is part of an overall investment, building on the strong, and rapidly-expanding, UK research in this field and aims to take this research through to commercial success. We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Experimental Officer (EO) to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for the NGI and the wider University. You will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students, initially leading the commissioning of a new scanning thermal probe lithography instrument, to be used inside a glovebox, once commissioned The role will involve providing training, advice and support to users on the use of the instrument and the interpretation of acquired data you will work with the research community, developing methods for the testing of thermal resists on various materials and substrate to achieve the highest resolution (sub-10nm).
You will be an experienced experimentalist, with a demonstrable ability to acquire and interpret high quality data using advanced and highly specialised techniques. A proactive and energetic approach is important, as is an ability to establish a good rapport with students, staff, external customers and visitors.
Postgraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant science or engineering discipline and/or significant experience of working in either a manufacturing or research facility environment is required. Along with significant practical experience of Nanofabrication, measurement and characterisation of nanomaterials such as. AFM, EBL, laser writer, thin film deposition, reactive plasma etching.
