The University of Manchester Innovation Factory (UoMIF) is the University of Manchester’s subsidiary responsible for identifying and leading the commercialisation of its innovations and intellectual property.

The UoMIF works with academic inventors from the University to identify opportunities that have the potential to create social and economic impact. As part of our objective to become the world’s most effective University Technology Transfer organisation, we are looking to appoint an experienced Science & Engineering business builder to lead our Science & Engineering commercialisation team. 

Are you an experienced and entrepreneurial Science & Engineering professional with a passion for innovation?

We are searching for a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader who is a specialist in Science & Engineering. As Director of Projects you will lead a team in the identification and commercialisation of projects within the Science & Engineering arena. This role will be responsible for creating and managing compelling business cases and plans for successful spin-out businesses or high value licensing opportunities and managing the output of a team working across several market specialisms. 

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Director of Projects for Science and Engineering will have ultimate responsibility for ensuring a steady flow of innovative science and engineering projects that will have the potential to generate significant mark impact. As part of the senior management team, this person must have the gravitas to lead and develop a team and interact with board members on a regular basis, as well as an exceptional technical understanding within a broad science and engineering environment. 

They will be able to demonstrate strong commercial acumen and be able to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • A Higher degree in a relevant field is essential for this role.
  • Experience of leading a successful team would be advantageous.
