IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving department, we focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.
The Team
As the subject matter expert, you’ll lead, organise, motivate and direct the work of the windows server team in order fulfil its objectives as well as to operate efficiently and effectively. The team is made up of three members of staff who are responsible for managing the VMware virtualisation platform which hosts of over 1900 virtual machines and automated deployment and monitoring and management of over 800 windows servers.
The Role
The System Administrator (Operations Tech Lead) is responsible for the optimisation of performance of people including; determination of capabilities, allocation of tasks, setting clear direction and priorities. Working closely with staff to offer support, guidance and motivation, whilst managing performance against agreed objectives.
Working proactively to ensure effective working relationships within the team and with those whom the team interacts with. Providing support and guidance as required, in line with individuals' abilities.
You will provide technical expertise, designing and developing solutions to enhance the hosting of virtual machines and delivery of windows servers.
This is an exciting opportunity as there are many projects happening, we will be refreshing the entire VMware platform this year and investing in new end to end automation and monitoring tools and you could be part of these projects.
