
The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on EPSRC funded project aimed at the design, synthesis, characterisation and testing of polymers as antivirals.
This post is based within the Jones Lab within the Henry Royce Institute’s Hub building at the University of Manchester and will be conducted in close collaboration with Public Health England (PHE) at Porton Down.
You will be a trustworthy, conscientious, innovative experimental scientist who has successfully completed a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Bioengineering (or similar), Polymer Science or have equivalent experience.
Experience in polymer synthesis and characterisation and/or a strong chemistry background is essential. Previous experience of working with viruses (or other pathogens) is advantageous but not essential.
As this role involves research at a postgraduate level, applicants who are not an EEA national or a national of an exempt country and who will require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the UK Visas and Immigration’s (UKVI) Points Based System in order to take up the role, will be required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate and will need to obtain this prior to making any official visa application UKVI)
