Job Description

A Research Associate position in operando X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for heterogeneous catalysis is available for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist. You will undertake research developing operando XPS to study catalytic transformations at the solid-liquid interface, focusing on reactions prevalent to biomass valorisation, including fructose dehydration to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and HMF reduction to 2,5-dimethylfuran. The project, entitled Operando X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at the solid-liquid interface, is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of the UK Catalysis Hub. The position will be based at the Harwell Science and innovation campus, Oxfordshire, within the UK Catalysis Hub, and is available from July 2022, or soon thereafter, for 12 Months. The project will be based within the research group of Dr Christopher Parlett and is supported through collaborations with Dr Robert Weatherup (University of Oxford) and Dr Mark Isaacs (HarwellXPS and UCL).
