Our Team

The Quality Assurance function is responsible for assuring the highest level of quality for delivered IT solutions. Our team define and deliver end-to-end testing strategies, including functional, automation, performance and systems integration testing across both existing systems and new project developments.  The team will also work closely with other areas of IT Services and the wider University community to develop and document understanding of the IT estate.

We are looking for an IT professional who strives for excellence in test delivery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the role of Test Manager, the test project lifecycle and stakeholder management. They will display excellent communication and planning skills, have a drive for continuous improvement and a thorough understanding of the end-to-end testing process. They will also have experience with IT systems and business processes ideally within a higher education setting and be comfortable in communicating complicated technical issues to senior non-technical stakeholders.

The Role

You will be a people person and have experience managing a team and will support any third-party test resources across major programmes and projects.  You will embrace a ‘hands on’ approach, take responsibility for the overall testing and test processes, including resources, costs, timescales, test deliverables and traceability. You will ensure integrity of testing and will look for process improvements, contribute to corporate testing standards and best practice.

Working with IT Services and programme/project teams, this is an ideal opportunity for an individual to contribute to key University project deliverables by using and sharing their skills, knowledge of testing methodologies, best practice, and tools.

You will manage the client relationship regarding all testing matters and represent IT Services to the wider University community.

In addition to the Person Specification criteria detailed in this document, the successful applicant must have the following expertise:

Essential Criteria 

  • A degree/professional testing qualification or substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience of end-to-end test management.
  • Experience of leading, guiding and motivating a team.
  • Experience of working across multiple workstreams and teams including third party suppliers.
  • Delivering testing using traditional waterfall and agile project methodologies.
  • Proficient in the collection, analysis and reporting of testing metrics.
  • Production of detailed test estimates, resource plans and budget tracking.
  • Experience of producing test documentation across programmes and projects.
  • Ability to provide authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of test planning and execution.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience with Atlassian Test and Project Management tools
  • Effective, approachable and sensitive communicator in different societies and cultures.
  • Previous experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
  • High level of exposure to testing frontend web-based applications
  • Good problem solving
