The Role

An opening has arisen for an experienced Peoplesoft and Oracle Database Administrator to join the University of Manchester’s IT Services department.

You will work within the Database team providing specialist DBA support to the University's core business applications including Peopletools administration of Peoplesoft Campus Solutions systems and Oracle Databases, including support of Weblogic and Tuxedo middleware across various technologies and platforms including Oracle 11g/12c/19c on Unix/Linux and Windows. 

The primary technical area of responsibility for the successful candidate will be building and supporting PeopleSoft environments and Oracle databases, including those that provide service to the University's business systems, smaller standalone databases and associated technologies, such as Delphix.  

This role involves working with other DBAs and System Administrators and possibly business users to understand their issues and requirements, and to define and develop fixes and solutions. 

Specific Role requirements

Essential skills and experience:

  • Previous relevant work experience and either a degree/professional qualification or substantial experience in a similar role.  
  • Substantial experience with Peopletools Administration including Installing and configuring Peopletools PSHOMES using DPK’s (Deployment Kits) (version 8.57 onwards).
  • Installing and Configuring Peopletools Webserver (PIA), Application and Process schedulers and Database. Specifically on Solaris Unix and Linux OS platforms.
  • Apply security patches to Weblogic,Tuxedo and Java.
  • Experience of supporting high availability systems and scalable architectures
  • Experience of physical and cloud infrastructure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are also required with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across IT as well as with business users and suppliers. 
  • You should also be able to deal with complex problems and provide creative solutions to them. 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Oracle database installation and administration up to version 19c including applying patches.
  • Experience of RMAN backup and recovery.
  • Experience of Data guard.

Training to perform University-specific tasks will be provided as required.
