Job Description

Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is one of The University of Manchester’s cultural institutions. The organisation is responsible for engagement with the science, heritage & culture of Jodrell Bank and the wider University of Manchester, engaging visitors through a year-round visitor experience via exhibitions, grounds, events and festivals. We were established in 2011 and typically welcome around 160,000 visitors a year.

Jodrell Bank was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 in recognition of its internationally significant heritage, science and cultural impact. In 2022, a £21million project will culminate in the opening of the iconic First Light Pavilion in June.

In recognition of these two major changes, the visitor offer will now broaden to encompass both the heritage of the site and cultural engagement, alongside the science that has typically been delivered, to date, via talks, lectures and our curation of the science/culture programme at the bluedot festival etc.

We are seeking to appoint an Events Production Manager who will produce these events, which will have a wide range of topics and themes.

You will be directly responsible for planning and delivering a programme that will engage a broader range of people than our former audiences. We are therefore looking for a generalist rather than someone with expertise in only one area. We need a team player who has a ‘can do’ attitude and will ‘pitch in’ when this is needed; someone who is unruffled under pressure and can meet deadlines. Above all, we need someone with great people skills.

We welcome applications from people who have delivered events programming in science environments, and also from people who have experience in arts organisations, cultural festivals and/or the heritage sector or academic sector. The content for the events programme will be worked out with a wide range of people, many of whom will be academic colleagues from the University.  You will make sure that this content is delivered to the highest possible standard, delivering a great experience for all event participants.

You will report directly to the Deputy Director and will join the Senior Management Team in delivering the Centre’s strategic objectives. As the Centre receives no core funding and operates as a social enterprise, it is important that you are able to achieve audience engagement and revenue generation targets.

This is an exciting time for the Centre – and this role will shape some ground-breaking initiatives in the coming years. Come and join us!

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
