The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Fellow to join the Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research, School of Health Sciences (Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care). This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a NIHR Global Health Research Group, establishing sustainable care for depression and anxiety in Indonesia. The successful candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of health economists, statisticians, epidemiologists, mental health clinicians, mental health researchers in the UK and health methodologist in South-East Asia.

These topics are analysed through the development and application of econometric techniques to analyse and evaluate large-scale health and social care reforms in England and other High and Low and Middles-Income settings. Ongoing projects include evaluations of devolution in Greater Manchester the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme and pay-for-performance schemes in sub-Saharan settings. Projects involve the analysis of primary care, community care, social care, and hospital administrative datasets and national cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys.
In this project, you will work closely with Professor Matt Sutton, Dr. Laura Anselmi, Dr. Asri Maharani, Dr. Jonathan Stokes and Dr Jack Wilkinson, as well as other members of the project team based at the University of Manchester and at the University of Indonesia. You will be based in the Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research, Health Organisation, Policy and Economics research group. This is a 1.0 FTE post, for 48 months (dependent upon appointment date and probationary review). The post is based in the UK, although there may be opportunities for overseas travel, and ongoing collaboration with project team members in Indonesia is expected. A hybrid model of office and home-based working is possible.
The core duties will involve; designing and undertaking econometric, statistical epidemiological analysis to measure the distribution and determinants of mental health and map current service supply using publicly accessible, routinely collected data; participating in survey design, implementation and data analysis; and developing prospective resource planning to support the equitable and effective scale-up of mental health services in Indonesia. Duties will also include obtaining and managing large administrative datasets, preparing research reports and journal articles, presenting findings to academic and non-academic audiences. The findings of this research will inform the equitable and sustainable scale-up of mental health services in Indonesia. The post will require effective management skills and will involve extensive liaison with the multi-disciplinary project team and their collaborators.
Excellent undergraduate and Master degrees (or equivalents) in economics, applied social research methods, statistics, health sciences, or other relevant subjects with substantial quantitative elements is essential. Experience of applying advanced statistic methods, including multilevel model, spatial analysis, longitudinal data analysis and advanced econometric techniques to large administrative datasets, surveys, epidemiological and routine data. You should also hold or be close to submitting a PhD in in economics, applied social research methods, statistics, health sciences, or other relevant subjects with a substantial quantitative element, or an equivalent demonstrable research record with experience in health-related research. Experience in global health, mental health, and survey design and implementation is desirable.
