Job Description

We are looking for a biochemist, molecular or structural biologist who is self-motivated, highly organised and works well as part of a team. The project aims to investigate of membrane proteins in their native lipid environments using novel HDX-MS approaches. In particular, the project will combine the emerging HDX-MS technique with lipid nanodiscs and biochemical approaches to enable a molecular level understanding of eukaryotic membrane proteins in their native environment where they reside.

Essential skills and duties include:

  • Working with membrane proteins (e.g. receptors or transporters) using biophysical, biochemical and/or structural biology techniques.
  • Working with lipids, e.g. reconstitution of membrane proteins into solubilised forms.
  • Membrane protein insect cell expression/purification and characterisation of protein stability and expression levels in the membrane and in solubilised forms using appropriate assays.
  • Working with other laboratory members to develop methods and maintain equipment
  • Writing high-quality research papers.

The contract is offered for 18 months in the first instance renewable for up to five years.
