Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative information analyst to join the Directorate for the Student Experience. You will support strategic and operational planning by providing key management information and insight to senior decision makers on a number of strategic topics, as well as the development of user-friendly data models. As part of the University’s virtual, single Planning Team, you will provide institutional-wide support as required.

The post-holder will undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis and produce, summarise and present findings in a way that can be easily understood. You will analyse various internal and competitor datasets to assist the University (and its component Faculties and Schools) in benchmarking, strategic planning and performance monitoring. This will include working with all parts of the Directorate to understand capability and develop expertise. The Directorate covers areas such as Teaching & Learning, International Development and Student Services so includes data around student admissions, student progression/retention, graduate destinations and the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). A key project is likely to be in the emerging area of Learning Analytics and the University’s “360 degree view of a student” work.

You will have experience in analysing and visualisation of large and complex datasets, ideally within a higher education context including student data. You will possess excellent IT skills including advanced use of Excel, an understanding of SQL and experience in using and developing dashboards or other business intelligence visualisation tools. Additionally you will demonstrate well-developed verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to summarise concisely key trends or information, and confidence in presenting to senior stakeholders.
