Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Radio Cosmology.

The successful applicant will play an important role in analysing MeerKAT 21cm data for cosmology, with a further opportunity to contribute to the HERA project and 21cm global signal projects as well. The former will involve developing and applying statistical data analysis and simulation tools, particularly map-making codes and associated foreground removal methods, to current and forthcoming data from a MeerKAT autocorrelation (single-dish) 21cm intensity mapping survey, MeerKLASS. A key goal of this research is to introduce more sophisticated Bayesian statistical approaches to the map-making process, as well as studying and mitigating important systematic effects such as foreground contamination, calibration errors, and similar. Contributing to HERA data analysis and global signal experimental design along similar lines will also be possible.

The successful applicant is expected to have prior experience in statistical data analysis for astronomy, ideally for radio astronomy, CMB map-making, RF/antenna design or similar. The role will report into Dr Phil Bull, who leads a vibrant radio cosmology group specialising in 21cm intensity mapping.
