Job Description

The University welcomes applications for a permanent post in the general area of Ground Engineering at Grade 7 or Grade 8 (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) depending on qualifications and experience.

The post is in the School of Engineering, a leading centre for education in Civil Engineering and other disciplines. The key research priorities of the school are Net Zero & Environmental Sustainability, Engineering Materials, Digital Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering for Health, Autonomous Systems & AI, and Robotics. By integrating our theoretical, experimental, modelling and simulation expertise we lead internationally in several research areas related to sustainable construction materials, resilient engineering structures, materials in extreme environments, and geo-environmental engineering. We seek to appoint a Lecturer or a Senior Lecturer, to further develop our capacity in Ground Engineering. Further we expect the post-holder to contribute substantially to teaching Geotechnics and Surveying units as required at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to establish pathways for impact of their research.

We are interested to hear from early to mid-career researchers with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Computational geotechnical and/or geo-environmental engineering
  • Sensor technologies, digital twins, and AI in geotechnical/geo-environmental projects
  • Interactions of ground/underground structures with soil/rock for resilient infrastructure, including coastal and offshore
  • Environmental protection by land decontamination and landfill design
  • Hazard control of ground and underground structures for safe infrastructure, including coastal and offshore
  • Harvesting geothermal energy by ground source heat pumps
  • Application of natural materials in green construction for sustainable development
