The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Associate to join the Economic Sustainability Research Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (NIHR ARC-GM). This position offers the opportunity to contribute to studying inequalities and equity in national and local health and care systems, with a focus on resource allocation and payment methods, and designing solutions and evaluating initiatives to increase economic sustainability.
The NIHR ARC-GM is collaboration between The University of Manchester and the health and care system of Greater Manchester. Our work is directly informed by the needs of both this system and the local population. Our over-arching goal is to improve the health of the GM population and the quality and sustainability of the health and social care they receive. We will achieve this by co-producing excellent research in areas prioritised by the system and by enhancing its impact through supported implementation into policy and practice.
You will work with Dr Laura Anselmi, Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics, Matt Sutton, Professor in Health Economics, as well as other members of the Economic Sustainability Research Theme. You will be based in the Health Organisation, Policy and Economics (HOPE) research group in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care within the School of Health Sciences. This is a full-time post and you will be office-based at the University of Manchester campus on Oxford Road (non-negotiable).
You will need a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, public health or similar discipline with a substantial quantitative element. You will also need to demonstrate understanding of micro-econometrics or advanced statistics for applied health research, and experience of managing and analysing complex survey and/or administrative data. Knowledge of the English (and Greater Manchester) health and social care systems are desirable.
