Job Description

We wish to appoint a Research Associate to join the UK Data Service User Support and Training team at the Cathie Marsh Institute. The post will be on a full-time basis until September 30th 2022.

The Post

You will be a member of the User Support and Training team of the UK Data Service, based at the Cathie Marsh Institute (CMI) and specialising in government survey microdata and census microdata. The CMI team leads on the promotion and more effective use of microdata (government survey data and census microdata) in research, learning and teaching across a range of disciplines.

This is an exciting opportunity for a quantitative researcher to use/develop their skills in planning and helping to create online training/teaching materials. You will explore the feasibility of an online Data Skills Pathway for quantitative research in the social sciences and project manage the delivery of three new online learning modules. 

Data Skills Pathway

The vision of the Data Skills Pathway is to create a set of open access, online self-learning materials covering essential quantitative data skills, from pre-analysis and basic data skills through to intermediate and advanced data skills and available via the UK Data Service website. The aim of this project is to explore the feasibility of creating the Data Skills Pathway.

Data Skill Modules

The UK Data Service currently has three interactive online data skills modules  involving a combination of text, videos, quizzes and exercises, with a module on the topic of crime data in development and soon to be launched.  With the assistance of topic area specialists, you will manage the delivery of three new interactive online data skills modules in three topic areas to be decided (such as a quantitative methods topic or a computational social science topic).
