Job Description

A Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available for an outstanding and ambitious materials scientist to undertake research in the field of 2D material based polymer nanocomposites for thermal management applications. The position will be held in the Advanced Nanomaterials Group in the Department of Materials, under Dr. Mark Bissett and Prof. Ian Kinloch. The position is part of an Innovate UK funded project and involves collaboration between commercial partners and the University of Manchester to develop new nanocomposite materials for thermal management applications, particularly for use in the electronics industry.  You will be based in the Department of Materials, the National Graphene Institute, and the newly built Royce Institute.

You will have competence in the production and characterisation of polymer nanocomposites, and preferably you should also have experience in working with 2D materials, in particular measuring thermal conductivity.  You should be able to work under pressure, to maintain a high degree of accuracy, and to write and present your work both internally and for wider dissemination.  You should have a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline and a strong publication track record. You will be part of a well-established and world leading team working on graphene, and other 2D materials, across the faculty and the National Graphene Institute and Royce Institute.
