Job Description

Applications are sought for a Chair in Sustainable Materials (REF) in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester.

This position is associated with the strategic goal of the Faculty of Science and Engineering to build an internationally leading interdisciplinary grouping in sustainable materials. This is part of a programme at the University to develop disruptive solutions for sustainable futures. This interdisciplinary team will sit within the Faculty with strong links to the Sir Henry Royce Institute, the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, Manchester Environmental Research Institute, the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub and the Sustainable Consumption Institute. In addition, interdisciplinary research will be facilitated through the newly established Sustainable Futures platform in the University of Manchester.

Areas of interest include: smart sustainable materials; polymer degradation; renewable and earth abundant materials; composite and polymer recycling; design for disassembly.  The candidate’s research should be in one or more of polymer and composite chemistry, materials engineering, catalysis, materials characterisation and processing, circular economies, ecological impact and end of life.

Salary and start-up package are by negotiation, with scope to fully recognise applicants of the very highest standing. This post is advertised as full-time, but a part-time and flexible appointments may be considered.
