Job Description

Background

The MB ChB Programme is based on an integrated curriculum with Years 1 and 2 delivering the basic sciences that underpin the foundations of medicine and includes early clinical experience. Years 3 and 4, build on these foundations and emphasise learning through clinical experience in NHS based clinical placements.  The final year of the Programme integrates the learning of the previous 4 years and prepares the students for practice.  The University of Manchester also offers a pre-med foundation programme which is delivered collaboratively with a local FE college. 

Overall Purpose of the Job

The post-holder will be responsible for the design, standard-setting and post-assessment analyses related to the clinical knowledge & reasoning assessments used across the 5 years of the MB ChB Programme, namely the Progress Tests in Y1-4 and the Applied Knowledge Tests in Year 5.  The post-holder will work closely alongside colleagues from the wider Assessment Team and Teaching & Learning Team to ensure alignment between these assessments and the curriculum. The post-holder will also ensure that the Programme meets and maintains the GMC requirements for the AKT component of the forthcoming Medical Licensing Assessment.

In addition to being medically qualified with current GMC registration, the successful applicant will also have knowledge and understanding of the MB ChB Programme structure and outcomes.  It is essential to have a commitment and enthusiasm for UG medical education and an ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
