Job Description

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to explore the relationship between the circadian clock and protein trafficking in mammalian cells, with a focus on the secretory pathway.

You will join a team of researchers in Manchester and Bristol investigating how cells build and repair collagen-rich tissues in health and during wound repair and how these processes are controlled by the circadian clock. This is a full-time appointment starting on 1st June 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter, and is funded for 2.5 years through a UKRI-BBSRC Strategic Longer/Larger (sLoLa) award. You will have opportunities for secondment at the University of Bristol during the programme.

The project will involve manipulation and analysis of various cell models, using cutting edge time-resolved ‘omics approaches in combination with gene editing and advanced imaging methods.

You will be based jointly in the laboratories of Martin Lowe (Professor of Cell Biology and Qing-Jun Meng (Professor of Chronobiology), who are members of the Cell Dynamics Research Group (https://www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/research/domains/cellular-development-systems/cell-dynamics/ ) and Wellcome Centre for Cell Matrix Research (https://www.wellcome-matrix.org ), respectively.  You will be integrated into a multi-disciplinary team working on mathematical modelling, molecular biology, animal models and circadian rhythm. The project will be supported by access to world-class Core Facilities and Experimental Officers within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester. You will have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biological sciences. You will ideally have experience of cell biology, protein trafficking and circadian biology. Duties will include design of experiments, data processing, training co-workers, presentation of work and preparation for publication.
