Job Description

The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Associate.  This post is hosted by the Implementation Science Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (NIHR ARC-GM) and is funded via the NIHR’s National Priority Area Research Programme 2020-23 via the ‘Prevention including Behavioural Risk Factors’ Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Consortium. This Consortium is led by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC). The successful applicants will support this NIHR National Priority Area funded programme which seeks to evaluate the implementation and routinisation, and effectiveness and return on investment of ‘NHS-funded tobacco dependence services’ in a number of acute, maternity, and mental health settings across England.

The NIHR ARC-GM is collaboration between The University of Manchester and the health and care system of Greater Manchester. Our work is directly informed by the needs of both this system and the local population. Our over-arching goal is to improve the health of the GM population and the quality and sustainability of the health and social care they receive. We will achieve this by co-producing excellent research in areas prioritised by the system and by enhancing its impact through supported implementation into policy and practice.

You will work with Chris Armitage, Professor of Health Pyschology, as well as other members of the ARC-GM Implementation Science Research Theme, and the ‘NHS-funded Tobacco dependence services’ research team. You will be based in the Manchester Centre for Health Psychology and Division Psychology and Mental Health within the School of Health Sciences. This is a part-time 0.5FTE post and you will be office-based at the University of Manchester campus on Oxford Road.

You will hold a PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g., Health Psychology) and have experience of using quantitative and qualitative research methods, conducting qualitative interviews and using appropriate data analysis methods. Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential and the ability to work well both in a team and using your own initiative.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
