Job Description

The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a fixed-term lectureship post in Ancient History, within the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology, and Egyptology (CAHAE). The post will run for 8 months at 1.0fte. 

The successful candidate will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Classics, Ancient History, History, or a related discipline with an emphasis on Ancient History, together with some teaching experience and strong evidence of teaching capability in this area. The current post arises from the need to cover undergraduate teaching in Roman history, level, the absence of Professor Christian Laes, who has taken leave to take up a Professorial Fellowship at the Heinz Heinen Kolleg (HHK), at the University of Bonn, Germany. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery, and assessment of existing course units on CAHAE’s programmes (including dissertation marking and marking after the August examination period). He or she will also be expected to contribute to administration for the Department as requested, and to play a full role in regular recruitment activities and staff-student events.
