Job Description

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in nuclear physics to participate in the study of single-particle structure of exotic nuclei using transfer reactions as a probe. The project is also concerned with the implementation of a new technique for probing the fission process via measurements of transfer- induced fission using a solenoidal spectrometer and an array of heavy-ion detectors for fission fragments.

The successful applicant will assist with research concerning transfer-reaction studies, using stable and radioactive beams. These studies will predominantly use solenoidal spectrometers such as ISS, HELIOS and SOLARIS, at ISOLDE-CERN (Geneva), Argonne National Laboratory (USA) and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (USA), respectively. Whilst the successful candidate will be based at The University of Manchester, the position will involve time spent using these facilities. There are some opportunities to initiate new research within the overall aims of the project.
