We are embarking on an exciting academic-industry project on the digitalization of R&D and innovation processes in a major multinational fast moving consumer goods company. This position is an opportunity for an ambitious and engaged post-doctoral researcher to play a key role in exploring the opportunities and challenges for innovation management and organisational change posed by the adoption of digitalization and automation in the R&D and technological innovation process. This project is part of a major collaborative research programme between The University of Manchester and Unilever funded under the EPSRC Prosperity Partnership Centre in Advanced Fluid Engineering for Digital Manufacturing (CAFE4DM).  The research programme involves academics from the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, Alliance Manchester Business School and the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science. The successful applicant will work most closely with researchers within Alliance Manchester Business School.

This PDRA will support a project developing cutting-edge, inter-disciplinary research related to development, adoption, and diffusion of digitalized R&D and innovation processes. The PDRA will undertake research in four inter-related areas: 1) R&D and innovation practices within Unilever and comparable companies; 2) change management programmes that promote the adoption of new digital technologies in R&D and the new product development process; 3) how digitalization can help decision making by senior management; and 4) the transfer of digitalization practices within a global company.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to research, publishing, and engagement with management practice. We expect you to have a PhD, excellent project management skills, a strong background in qualitative methods and an interest in delivering impact through engagement with large companies.
