This is an exciting opportunity for two highly-motivated postdoctoral research associates to work on the Wellcome Trust and Royal Society-funded project “Epidemiological and evolutionary consequences of coinfection: a multi-scale modelling approach”. The appointments will be made in the School of Mathematics, with numerous interaction opportunities with other departments and national and international collaborators.
The project involves modelling multi-strain and multi-pathogen systems with an explicit description of within-host dynamics and between-host transmission. Candidates will focus on studying and extending the models (integro-differential dynamical systems) and alsose them to gain insight into a range of applications (HIV, TB, Pneumococcus, and antimicrobial resistance).
Both candidates should have, or be working towards, a PhD in applied mathematics or related discipline. Strong mathematical and computational skills are essential, and experience with integral equations or epidemic modelling desirable. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are also essential for such an interdisciplinary project.
These are full-time fixed-term positions, tenable for a period of 2.5 years each, and starting in March 2018 or soon after.
