Manchester Museum and Ambition for Ageing, supported by the Big Lottery Fund’s Ageing Better programme and Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund’s Great Place Scheme, are delighted to be recruiting for this brand new post.
The World Health Organization has recognised Greater Manchester as the UK’s first age-friendly city region. The city region is committed to pioneering a positive vision of ageing through its Age Friendly Strategy, and in particular to engage and involve older people in arts and cultural activities.
A key activity within this is the Manchester Culture Champions volunteering programme, which aims to inform, involve and actively engage older people in Manchester with the variety of cultural activities and events taking place in the city throughout the year.
The Age-Friendly Culture Champions Manager will continue to develop the existing Culture Champions programme within Manchester, and extend it – in collaboration with existing champions – across agreed areas of Greater Manchester. They’ll also establish and coordinate the Greater Manchester Age Friendly Culture working group, building on the existing Manchester-based network.
We’re looking for a great ‘people person’; someone with the communication skills to confidently establish and build relationships with key stakeholders across this large geographical area, whilst ensuring that individual volunteers are valued and supported. You’ll have a great understanding of age-friendly culture and be willing to travel around Greater Manchester (which you’ll know inside out). We will also be happy to consider applications for job share.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact upon age friendly culture within the region, and to feed into the capital development and formation of the Centre for Age Friendly Culture at Manchester Museum.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
