An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Engineering at the University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA), a world leader in radio astronomy research and technological development. JBCA operates the Lovell Telescope and the e-MERLIN/Very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) national facility.
Based at the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire, you will lead a culture of continuous improvement and motivate technical teams designing and developing state of the art systems for national and international astronomical research projects. As a talented engineer with a background in successfully delivering large-scale technology programmes, you will define and acquire new instrumentation projects and apply for sources of external funding in order to realise JBCA’s vision.
You will represent JBCA internationally, promoting its facilities and technological developments, whilst developing collaborations with research institutions and stakeholders including the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) organisation also located at Jodrell Bank.
This will be a challenging yet rewarding role that will play a key part in taking JBCA forward as a world-leading science and engineering facility.
