Applications are invited for a Service Director for Census, UK Data Service. You will have a central and senior leadership role within the UKDS with overall strategic and operational responsibility for census data within the service, while pursuing an academically excellent independent research agenda in census research at the Cathie Marsh Institute.

In this senior role you will be expected to be the public face for census at high level external meetings, committees and events. It is an exciting opportunity to help shape the UK’s data landscape in the run-up to the 2021 UK censuses.

The post forms part of the senior management team of the UK Data Service (comprising a Strategic Leadership Group and five Service Directors) and involves liaison with major external stakeholders, and people who contribute to the census team from across the Universities of Essex, Edinburgh, Southampton, UCL and Jisc.

The UK Data Service is a flagship ESRC investment, providing national infrastructure for suppliers and users of the UK’s world-leading data resources for social and economic research. We address the requirements of the major stakeholders of the service, from data selection and ingestion to providing access, support and training, in an increasingly complex data environment. The service is strategically important to the UK social science community and is crucial for researchers.  The UK Data Service is delivered by staff with special expertise in research data based at universities across the UK. As well as CMI, these include the University of Essex, Jisc, Edinburgh, University of Southampton and University College London.
