This is an exciting opportunity to join this successful research group to work on our programme investigating prevention of falls amongst older people, the role of frailty in relation to falls in the community, hospitals and residential care, and the role of activity promotion in falls and frailty prevention. The post is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and you will specifically help to develop our research programme in the area of Healthy Ageing, a priority and developing research area at the University of Manchester.
A core issue is the translation of research evidence into practice. For example, there is strong evidence for strength and balance exercise training in falls prevention, but effectiveness is hampered by issues relating to uptake and adherence, driven not only by patient variables but perhaps primarily by the ways we organise and deliver services. Falls and fall prevention are a recognised priority area not only for UK, but are highlighted by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Ageing Hub and Greater Manchester NHS Trusts. You will align research in HARG on falls prevention and frailty with the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) led Manchester Falls Collaborative, as well as other developments in the GM Ageing Hub and wider GM Combined Authority. You will also work alongside colleagues in the NIHR Older People and Frailty Policy Research Unit, directed by Prof Todd, and other colleagues working on Healthy Ageing in Greater Manchester including colleagues in MICRA.
This position will be located within the School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester. The successful candidate will be based in one location in the School of Health Sciences. The position is funded by Prof Todd’s NIHR Senior Investigator award.
