An ERC sponsored Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious synthetic chemist to undertake research in the field of synthetic f-element chemistry, focusing on actinide chemistry. As part of a multidisciplinary team you will synthesise a series of geometrically precise f-element complexes. When appropriate, we will analyse the physical properties of these complexes using a wide variety of techniques including SQUID magnetometry and EPR spectroscopy.
For recent publications relevant to the project see: Nature, 2017, 548, 439; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2017, 139, 18714; Nature Chem., 2017, 9, 578.
You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in synthetic organometallic chemistry. Expertise in air sensitive actinide synthesis using Schlenk and glove box techniques and the characterisation of products by single crystal XRD, elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry, SQUID, UV/Vis, IR, Raman and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, are all essential. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and leading a research team, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
The start date is 1st October 2019, or soon after, and the position is available for one year.
