Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Portuguese Studies (teaching-focused), which is tenable from 20 January 2020 to 30 June 2020.
You must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, submitted or very near completion, and demonstrable teaching experience in Lusophone cultural studies at university level. We are particularly interested in candidates who have excellent knowledge of Portuguese society, literature and culture. You must be fluent in English and Portuguese. Some involvement in the language teaching activities of the department will be non-negotiable. Experience of teaching Brazilian cultural studies and assessing translation at undergraduate level would be highly desirable. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to empathise with students.
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
Short-listed candidates will be asked to make a 20-minute presentation on teaching – the idea here would be to offer a 20-minute section of an actual class, as opposed to an entire class condensed into 20 minutes.
Please note that we are unable to respond to enquiries, accept CVs or applications from Recruitment Agencies.
