The NIHR Patient Safety Translational Research Centre Greater Manchester seeks a full-time Research Associate for a fixed term contract, starting from 1st September 2019 until 31 July 2022. Funding is available to undertake this post on a full-time basis, but job-share or part-time working applications would be welcome.


This post will be appointed in the Mental Health Services work-steam under the line management of Professors Nav Kapur and Roger Webb. The key purpose of this post is to provide high quality project management of PSTRC Greater Manchester research projects, focusing primarily on conducting qualitative research to understand patient safety in mental health services and subsequently translating findings into practice using implementation science methodologies with the aim of reducing the frequency of suicidal experiences and self-harm. This will involve extensive liaison with the project team and with internal and external collaborators.


You will have a PhD, or equivalent, in a relevant health or social science subject. You will have demonstrable experience of conducting high quality applied-health services research including the use of qualitative methodologies. You will have a track record of involving patients and/or public in research. You will also have excellent communication skills, evidence of collaborative working and ability to deliver project outputs to time and target, including authorship of high quality publications in peer reviewed journals.
