The Philosophy department sits within the School of Social Sciences and is a research-oriented department delivering excellent teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students. To further strengthen our research and teaching portfolio, in line with our strategic objectives, the department wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy.
We are seeking to complement the department with a new appointment with the potential to further enhance the quality of our future research in the area of engaged philosophy (construed as philosophy that engages with the major social, environmental, ethical, and religious issues of our time – for example, philosophy of race or gender – and has the potential for wider impact beyond academia). Such work may also contribute to our research excellence in history of analytic philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of mind and/or language, and teaching duties will include lecturing and/or tutoring in one or more of the core areas of engaged philosophy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
You should have experience of delivering research-informed teaching at an institution of higher learning or should be able to demonstrate the clear potential to do so.
Lecturer applicants must have, or be about to complete, a relevant PhD (or equivalent) and demonstrate the potential to produce high-quality publications and to provide excellent teaching.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments will be made on merit.
Happy to talk flexible working.
Blended working arrangements may be considered
