Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the multi-partner EPSRC funded ‘Robotics for Nuclear Environments’ programme grant. The University of Manchester is the lead partner in the programme which also includes researchers at the Universities of West of England and Birmingham, working in collaboration with the National Nuclear Laboratory (see https://nuclearrobots.org/). As part of the RNE programme you will help develop robots and autonomous systems that will be necessary to address decommissioning challenges for the UK’s legacy nuclear facilities. 

You will have (or expect to receive shortly) a PhD or equivalent in mechatronic engineering, robotic systems, engineering dynamics or a similar discipline or have equivalent experience. In addition, you will have practical experience of developing and implementing your own low-level robotic systems, such as velocity control. In depth understanding and experience of robot dynamics and modelling of dynamic systems, relating to aquatic robots is highly desirable. Experience of programming robots using ROS in C++ or python is required. You will have a strong publication record and demonstrable experience of successfully working as part of a team.
