This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and highly skilled scientist/engineer to engage in R&D with companies at the leading edge of printed electronics and graphene science. The post will be based within the GEIC and support project delivery by applications teams based within the facility.
The GEIC is a £60m capital project to construct the world’s foremost centre for graphene and 2DMaterials commercialisation and is located on campus at The University of Manchester.
The University of Manchester is looking to recruit Application Specialist(s) with appropriate expertise in industrial coatings & composites including formulation, application techniques and test methods. The Specialist will be involved in conducting a number of applied projects in partnership with a diverse range of industrial partners looking to investigate the use of graphene, 2D materials and other advanced materials in printed electronics applications. Projects are run by applications teams and we are inviting people to apply with experience in the following areas:
- Printed Electronics
- Roll to Roll printing systems
- Inkjet printing
- Formulation of conductive and functional inks
- Electronic characterisation of thin films
- Piezoelectric and piezoresistive sensors
You will consult with other researchers and the Application Managers on developing research approaches to projects as well as determining the facilities required. Application Specialists are expected to develop skills associated with the management of their projects, health and safety as well as further development of technical skills for which training will be provided. You will be expected to be knowledgeable across the breadth of the coatings industry and be able to translate cutting edge research into commercial opportunities for our partners whilst working alongside the leading academics in graphene research and major global industrial companies.
The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to be involved in one the most significant and high-profile research projects in the UK. They will be part of team leading the transfer of knowledge and technology from the University of Manchester to companies in the UK and beyond.
