The African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC) is offering up to eight 18 month post-doctoral awards for early career scholars interested in engaging with the Consortium and its research on the political economy of integrated urban development in 13 African cities
Successful applicants will work with ACRC teams to research critical challenges preventing poverty reduction, social inclusion, economic development and environmental sustainability in African cities.
You will need to have been awarded (or be very close to completing) a relevant PhD focused on urban development in Africa and/or on the use of political economy approaches to analyse relevant development challenges in Africa. You won’t necessarily have worked in one of our 13 cities.
You may be based at the Global Development Institute in Manchester, or with one of our partners in Liverpool, London, Nairobi or Helsinki (see www.african-cities.org). You are also likely to have the opportunity to spend time with other partners in Africa, depending on research area. You will become part of a peer group of ACRC postdocs for which a number of joint activities and events will be organised.
We are looking for truly exceptional individuals with a strong commitment to achieving positive urban change in African Cities and advancing research in this field.
In support of your application please provide a short statement (no more than four pages) in which you outline the area of research that you are keen to advance during this 18 month period, which of our eight domains it relates to, and why it is important that the ACRC includes it. Please read the instructions included in the Further Particulars document linked below.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
