Job Description

The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Associate in Health Economics. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a stream of work focusing on economic issues in the supply of health care in the English NHS. The post is available for 12 months in the first instance, starting on the 1st of October 2022.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at the University of Manchester contributing equally to two projects funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and focusing on supply-side factors in health care.

The role will involve managing administrative data and applying a combination of econometric and micro-economic techniques, contributing to collaborative research and the production of papers published in scientific journals.

This is a full-time post and the post-holder will be based at the University of Manchester campus on Oxford Road, with the option of hybrid working.

You will need an excellent undergraduate and Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, health economics or a similar discipline, with a substantial quantitative element. You will also need to demonstrate understanding of micro-economics, health care economics, and micro-econometrics or advanced statistics for applied health research. Experience of managing and analysing complex administrative or survey data and a working knowledge of Stata and/or R are essential. Knowledge of the English health and social care system, knowledge of health research, and a PhD in economics or health economics are desirable
