The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Fellow with expertise in economics or health economic to join the Economic Sustainability Research Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (ARC-GM), based at the University of Manchester. The postholder will use econometric methods and large survey and administrative datasets to further our understanding of the determinants of health in Greater Manchester, other specific areas of England, and the United Kingdom more broadly.
Primarily, the successful candidate will work on an NIHR funded study looking at the effectiveness of social prescribing schemes in England and Scotland (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR134066). This multi-region study aims to map current provision and service configuration and to assess whether access, engagement and outcomes vary by delivery model, geography and population characteristics over time.
The successful candidate will also work on other projects related to the econometric analysis of health and social care data.
The NIHR ARC-GM (funded until 30th Sep 2024) is a collaboration between The University of Manchester and the health and care system of Greater Manchester. Our work is directly informed by the needs of both this system and the local population. Our over-arching goal is to improve the health of the GM population and the quality and sustainability of the health and social care they receive. We will achieve this by co-producing excellent research in areas prioritised by the system and by enhancing its impact through supported implementation into policy and practice.
The successful applicant will work with Dr Luke Munford (Line Manager), Professor Matt Sutton and other members of the NIHR ARC-GM and will be based in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. This is a full-time post that allows home working from within the UK, with the expectation that travel to Manchester and other areas of the UK for work-related reasons are viable on a regular basis.
You will hold a PhD or equivalent in a predominantly quantitative discipline such as economics or health economics (or have a thesis submitted awaiting examination) and have experience of handling and analysing large administrative and survey datasets. Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential and the ability to work well both in a team and using your own initiative.
