The Whitworth is hiring!

An exciting new role has come up in our collections and exhibitions team. We are recruiting an experienced Gallery Registrar to work closely with an established team of Curators, Conservators and Technicians on our internationally significant collections and to support on the delivery of the ambitious exhibition programme.

The Whitworth has an extensive and eclectic collection. It ranges from outstanding groups of works on paper to textiles and wallpapers made for the mass market, a unique collection of Outsider Art and international contemporary works. Dynamic and changing, we continue to expand our collection through gifts and purchases and loan both nationally and internationally.

We are known for our internationally-recognised shows by contemporary artists including Suzanne Lacy, Forensic Architecture and Ibrahim Mahama, including national and international loans as well as new commissions. We also hold an innovative rotation of collection displays and participatory-led exhibitions that creatively connect with current social and political issues including Still Parents, Open House and Utopias.

Driven by a mission to work with communities to use art for positive social change we aim to actively address what matters most in people’s lives. Our vision has been developed as part of an international dialogue about how to evolve and adapt museums to a constantly changing world. This work is underpinned by three key concepts: learning together through making and doing; creating a place of care, consideration and community; taking action.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
