The Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team is responsible for ensuring that the University can identify and recruit students of outstanding achievement and potential from all educational backgrounds and encouraging progression into higher education more generally, particularly within its local communities. This work entails raising awareness of the benefits of The University of Manchester and higher education among school pupils, further education students, colleges and other educational bodies.
With previous experience of delivering educational initiatives with BAME communities, the post requires up to date knowledge of the university application process and the issues surrounding the progression of learners into higher education. With the ability to prioritise a varied workload in a busy environment, you will have a flexible approach to work and demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving. The post requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the experience of motivating and supervising others.
In this role, you will take responsibility for specific areas of widening participation activity focusing on BAME learner progression into higher education. You will manage and coordinate the work of student ambassadors and volunteers in the delivery of widening participation activities, and foster effective relationships with teachers and advisers in local schools and colleges as well as colleagues from across the University.
The post is also responsible for supporting the outreach work of the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre. The Centre is part of The University of Manchester and as a member of the Archives+ partnership is situated in the city’s Central Library. You will support the delivery of key events in the Centre’s calendar such as Black History Month and Refugee Week.
