The University of Manchester is seeking to appoint an individual with a track record of experience in managing complex projects and operations, building and developing of networks, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to take up the role of Research Development Officer (AI Centre Manager).
The University of Manchester is making a strategic investment in fundamental AI research, to complement its existing strengths in AI applications across several prominent research fields in the University, which give high-profile application and collaboration opportunities for the outcomes of fundamental AI research. The University is one of the most active partners of the national Alan Turing Institute, hosts 27 Turing Fellows and Fellows of the European Laboratory of Learning and Intelligent Systems ELLIS, in the new ELLIS Unit Manchester. The University has recently launched a Centre for AI Fundamentals and has already started recruiting academics to be part of it.
The Research Development Officer (AI Centre Manager) will manage the activities of the newly established AI Centre for AI Fundamentals. This will include contributing to the development and implementation of the Centre’s strategies, raising its profile, and coordinating programmes focussed on delivering its objectives including income generation from research activities.
The post holder will also act as coordinator for the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), facilitating ELLIS’ activities and ensuring ELLIS Manchester adds value both to the University and the wider ELLIS network.
This role will be based within the Research Development and Innovation team in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The team consists of the Faculty’s Business Engagement, Research Development and Impact, and Internationalisation teams.
